I’ve been dying to post a few pics from Lauren’s gorgeous Driskill Hotel bridal session. I fall in love with that hotel every time I go. Lauren has the perfect style for the hotel’s glamorous backdrop. The pillars and balcony along with the huge windows throughout make the Driskill a great place to create dramatic portraits.

Lauren and Colby had a gorgeous Tarrytown United Methodist wedding this past weekend that was so gorgeous with the light that spilled in from the stained glass windows. It’s been a long time since I photographed a wedding at Tarrytown United Methodist and I think it’s one of my favorite churches in the city. It feels a little 1950ish and the simplicity is what makes it so beautiful.

Lauren and Colby had a traditional family wedding that was very sweet and I loved how Lauren cried during her vows. I think crying sometimes happens when you are truly hearing what you’re promising. Those words are powerful and in a church setting, it resonates throughout the sanctuary.

Lauren and Colby had their reception at the always GORGEOUS Driskill Hotel. I don’t know if it was intended but stepping into the Driskill does feel like stepping back in time with the glamorous pillars, paintings and staircase. I also love that it’s on 6th and Brazos and it has the best people passerby’s in the whole city. Without fail, my clients get well wishes from every direction when we step out onto the street to take portraits.

Lauren chose the color scheme of lavenders, purples and reds which were so beautiful with the tall candle sticks in the center of the main table. It was all absolutely breathtaking. I’m always impressed with how much the Driskill mezzanine can be transformed every time I’m there.

Lauren and Colby, I wish you both the very best!!

Kate and Greg had a gorgeous Vintage Villas lakeside wedding this past weekend that was such a sweet celebration with family and friends. Greg’s mom couldn’t be there so she was live on an iPad and Kate’s dapper 91 year old dad was there from start to finish.

Vintage Villas is the perfect venue for a small wedding because it creates such an intimate atmosphere. The outside patio overlooks the lake and is a prime spot for watching the sunset. Kate and Greg’s guests spent the evening sitting on the couches and relaxing which is my definition of the perfect laid back Texas wedding.

Kate’s GORGEOUS orange color highlighted everything from her bouquet to the ribbons on the flower girl’s dresses. Against the green backdrop, it really stood out and was a great contrast to Kate’s white dress and Greg’s white suit. Speaking of white suit, I think everyone should wear one for a summer wedding. The men can breath and it looks fantastic in pictures.

Kate and Greg’s portraits were so easy to shoot. They just looked at one another and smiled. When Greg laid his head on the top of Kate’s head during the portraits, I thought there’s nothing I could suggest that would be better than that quick moment. I loved it all!

Kate and Greg, I wish you both the very best!!

Engagement sessions with pets are always the coolest. It not only gives me a chance to get to know the couple, it makes for great photo interaction with their four-legged kids. Often they’re a great ice breaker and can put a couple at ease because the session isn’t all about them. I always try to take a portrait of the dog as well and it’s amusing as to what my clients will do to make them “smile”.

Just as with human kids, the picture is REALLY going on behind me because we all kind of do whatever it takes.:)

Austin is such a great dog town and I rarely run into a problem bringing a pet along. The main thing is making sure our area is leash only if we’re on public land. I also think it’s great to bring another person to watch the pet while I shoot pictures of the couple alone. On a cool day, I’ve had clients put out a bowl of water and tie them to a tree which can work as well. At the end of the day, I want the pet to enjoy their session as well.

The top picture is one of my all time favorite engagement shots with a dog and the following couples are weddings I can’t wait to shoot this fall.
